Affiliate Marketing - A Beginner's Introduction

If you are reading this article, you've probably heard the term affiliate marketing. This is an article introducing the novice online entrepreneur to the ideas and principles of affiliate marketing.

Basically, affiliate marketing is a term describing the art of internet advertising. The internet provides a wealthy landscape for the enterprising to publish content. There are an incredible number of avenues to claim your space on the internet. Many of them are free or low cost.

Once you have your space, you can then sell advertising space to companies with products to sell. At this point, you are joining the ranks of the advertising marketer. As most are aware, the potential for earnings is unlimited in the advertising business.

But how does this work for the individual just starting out and learning about the business? Basically, one would form a relationship with the company selling a product and then post their ads on your website. The owner of the website would be paid either when someone simply clicks on the ad or when someone goes through the ad and makes a purchase.

It may seem daunting to try and find affiliates to contact. However, the growth of the internet has made this a simple process. One of the largest companies is Google. One can simply start a Google AdSense account for free. Google will then give you the code to put on your webpage which will generate rotating ads displayed on the site. Whenever anyone clicks on those ads, Google will pay the site owner.

A site owner can also explore other companies such as clickbank.com or commission junction at cj.com. Both of these companies market products that the affiliate marketer can promote. Again, these are companies that don't cost anything to join. One simply joins up and then chooses the products that they want to promote.

Again, you are given all the codes to put into your site that will generate the ads. These companies more often pay commission for actual purchases. However, the benefit is that this will generate a much larger income than the click to pay methods.

If you are new to this concept, these are a couple of great places to start doing your research. As a suggestion, it may be tempting to try a "shotgun" approach to advertising, but you will get better results if you chose products that relate to the content on your site.
