There are two deep, dark secrets that the Internet marketing gurus rarely talk about. The first of these is the need to get traffic to your site. I have seen dozens of schemes for making money with Internet marketing that are all based on what happens when visitors arrive at your site-with no mention of how to get them there.
The second deep, dark secret is that Internet marketing basically boils down to a numbers game.
What does this mean?
The fact is, how you make money on the Internet is all based on what is called your conversion factor. This is a fancy way of saying what percentage of your visitors actually click on your AdSense ads or buy your product. While this number may depress you, the conversion rate for most marketers is 2% to 3%.
This means that for every 100 visitors you attract to your website, only two or three will do something that will earn you revenue. Now, you can do some simple math. If your AdSense ads generate $.50 every time someone clicks on one of them, then 100 visitors a day will produce $1.00-$1.50. Two hundred visitors will double this number and 300 will triple it. However, you matter how you slice it if you re relying on AdSense for your revenue, you will either need a lot of visitors every day, a much higher conversion rate or a lot of websites.
How about affiliate sales?
Next, let's look at how much you can expect to earn daily from affiliate sales. For the sake of the example, let's say that you have Amazon.com products on your website. Amazon pays a 5% commission unless you become a really big seller. If your site is about natural supplements that sell for an average of nine dollars and you still three a day, you will generate $27 for Amazon and $1.35 for yourself. The lesson to be learned here is that if you're going to depend on Amazon for your revenue, it's best to pick more expensive products. In comparison to natural supplements, single, coffee makers can sell for as much as $120. Sell two of these a day with a 5% commission and you earn $12-or a lot more than you do selling natural supplements.
Clickbank products
Finally, let's look at the numbers if you decide to sell a ClickBank (clickbank.com) information product. Many of these products sell for $30 or more. Let's be on the pessimistic side and figure that the product you've selected to promote sells for $30. However, unlike Amazon.com, the commission for this ClickBank product is 50% or $15. Sell two of these products in the day and you just generated $30 in revenue.
Now, of course it is possible to get better than a 2% to 3% conversion rate. Some marketers boast of conversion rates as high as 5% to 10%. However, this is probably not something that you, as a novice marketer, can expect to accomplish initially. This is why I've stayed with the 2% to 3% conversion rate as this is considered both realistic and doable.
Just do the math
Given these numbers, it would seem that the best product to promote would be a ClickBank product. However, keep in mind that most of the smart marketers have dozens if not hundreds of websites. So, while you might decide to derive your revenue from only AdSense ads, the numbers get a lot better looking if you have 10 or 20 sites. Just do the math, and you'll have a better idea as to what you need to do to generate the amount of revenue that you want weekly.
