Even if ones website is on a niche topic that attracts numerous visitors but in itself is not geared to earning money - i.e. your not selling a service or product directly to visitors there are still many ways in which you can 'monetize' your site - or turn it into a money making site.

Properly the most common way is to add advertising is care of Google or Yahoo's ad programs. Googles adsense is very easy to join and easy to place on your site. You generate a code which will have your unique code in and your can customize it further by choosing horizontal banners, towers, square boxes, etc. You can also change the colors to fit in with the theme of your site. You get paid per click from this sort of advertising and the price varies per click depending on the demand from advertisers for a particular keyword.

Another way to monetize your site is to add affiliate programs. There are numerous providers, clixgalore, linkshare, commission junction, clickbank and more. They provide text or banner links which has your unique code. If someone clicks on the banner the affiliate program registers that you brought that customers and you can earn money depending on which way the affiliate program is set up. This can be pay per click (in which case it functions much like Google adwords and you will get paid per click - but in this case it will be a set amount per click). An alternative can be pay per lead, in which you will get paid if the customer completes a particular action. The final option is paid per sale, in which case you will be a percentage of any sale made - up to as much as 75% for clickbank products which are all digital down loadable items.

Other options include advertising a Multi-Level Marketing program like Global Domains International which offer their own banners and links but only pay if someone joins your down lines.

None of these options for monetizing your site are difficult to achieve and merely require you to copy and paste code into your into individual pages.
