Squidoo is a user generate content site, that allows you to create your own free webpage called a "lens" you can make the lens about anything subject you like (within reason)

How Can I Make Money From My Lens?

The best way of making money from your lens is to promote affiliate products that are relevant to the topic of your lens these products will pay you a commission for every sale. Squidoo also make money form Google adsense on the site and will pay 50% of the proceeds for any ads that are clicked on.

Where Does The Traffic Come From

There is internal traffic form the site its self, but most of the traffic comes from the major search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN. In order to make sure that you rank well in these search engines for keywords that get traffic you need to do some "keyword research" before you set about creating and setting up your lens

Keyword Research

Google has a free keyword tool that will allow you to find new keywords and will tell you how many people search for these phrases every month, you can find this tool if you go to the search engine and type in "keyword" its the first result.

Once you have a found a keyword that gets some decent traffic (over 1000 search a month) then you need to check out the competition if you go the search engine and type in your key work surrounded with "quotes" then it will return the total number of unique results if this is quote low ie 50,000 or so then you could have a good chance of getting you page ranking.

It is also worth looking out to see if any other squidoo pages show up for this keyword as this can be a good indicator on how well it will rank, remember if there is one result with squidoo on the first page then make your own it will display 2 on the first page without any problem

Finding Products To Promote

The best thing to do is sign up to an affiliate network like ClickBank or Commission Junction where you will find thousands of products to promote in a wide variety of niche markets.

Find Hot Niches To Promote

Look for products that are selling on ClickBank and look on EzineArticles.com for topics that have a lot of articles written for them this can be a good indicator to what's hot.

Are There Other Sites Like Squidoo?

Yes there are literally hundreds of web 2.0 sites that rank well or are starting too, some other big ones that you can look into include Hub Pages, Wet Paint, wikiHow and many more.
